Breast Care Nurses success

18 March 2010  The Coalition today welcomed the news that almost two thousand Australian women had been assisted by McGrath Foundation breast care nurses.

Shadow Minister for Health Peter Dutton said breast care nurses played an important role in helping women who are diagnosed with breast cancer – more than 12,000 in Australia each year.

“The McGrath Foundation has championed the need for more specialist breast care nurses across Australia and its success in deploying these nurses has been welcomed by those afflicted by cancer,” Mr Dutton said.

Mr Dutton said the Coalition strongly supported the Foundation’s work and had a strong record of supporting women with cancer.

The Coalition Government provided more than $100 million dollars to the National Breast Cancer Centre and for breast cancer research between 2000 and 2007.

Specialist breast cancer nurses were deployed throughout regional Australia under the Supporting Women in Rural areas Diagnosed with Breast Cancer initiative.

“The McGrath Foundation is doing a wonderful job in placing specialist nurses across the country with nurses now employed in more than 40 locations.”
