NO EXPLANATION OF CARBON TAX FOR COMMUNITIES IN DICKSON

16 August 2011 An invitation to explain the impacts of the carbon tax to residents of Pine Rivers, the Hills District, Samford and Dayboro has been ignored by the Prime Minister, Julia Gillard.

The Federal Member for Dickson Peter Dutton wrote to Ms Gillard six weeks ago offering to organise a community forum within the electorate for the Prime Minister to personally justify the need for a new tax when families are already facing continuous price rises and struggling to meeting their commitments.

“The Prime Minister said that during the parliamentary break she would be travelling to all parts of the country to answer every question from every Australian who had a query,” Mr Dutton said.

“Unfortunately that commitment only lasted a matter of a couple of weeks and the Prime Minister hasn’t bothered to reply to my invitation to visit Dickson.”

“It is extremely disappointing that a Prime Minister who went to the last election promising not to introduce a carbon tax is now not prepared to face Australians to explain why she has discarded her promise,” Mr Dutton said.

Mr Dutton re-iterated his call for the Prime Minister to justify the carbon tax and said his invitation to organise a town hall-type forum in Dickson remained open.
